ANTHR 1150 Cultural Anthropology (4小时)

This course reviews the origin and development of culture in preliterate human societies. It focuses on the major social institutions of 家庭, 经济学, political organization, 和宗教.

PSYCH 2110 研究 Methods in Psychology (4小时)

A course designed to introduce, apply, and evaluate the basic research methods of psychology. Emphasis is placed upon problems of research design and 分析 in the laboratory and in natural settings. Students conduct investigations applying various designs and methods building skills in interpreting findings and in written communications.
Three lectures and one lab per week.
Prerequisite(s): PSYCH 1010/PSYCH 1010FYW Introduction to Psychological Science and PSYCH 2100 Psychological Statistics.

SOC 1110 Introduction to Sociology (4小时)

This course is an introduction to using the sociological perspective as a method of social inquiry. Students explore such basic concepts as culture, 社会化, 社会结构, social interaction, and social 改变. They study and apply the theories and research methodologies used to investigate human social interaction. These concepts are applied to social topics such as race, class, 性别, 家庭, 犯罪, 人口, 环境, 和其他人.

SOC 3920 Social Theory (4小时)

This course explores a broad overview of big ideas about humans, 社会, 改变, 稳定, and chaos that have influenced sociology and other social sciences in the 19th to early 21st centuries. Broad perspectives examined include: Marxism, 功能主义, Weberian rationalization, Symbolic Interactionism, 女权主义, 酷儿理论, 批判理论, Critical Race Theory, 理性的选择, Postmodernism and Poststructuralism, and theories of globalization. This course builds critical thinking, 分析, 应用程序, and writing skills essential to majors, 未成年人, and students interested in critically examining 社会.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 1110 Introduction to Sociology.

SOC 3930 Quantitative 研究 Methods (4小时)

在本课程中, students are introduced to quantitative research methods commonly used in social science research: survey research, experimental design, secondary 分析, and evaluation research. Emphasis is on survey research, including project design, questionnaire construction, 抽样, 数据收集, statistical 分析, and formal presentation of results. Key elements of the course are learning to ask researchable questions and formulate testable hypotheses.

Prerequisite(s): SOC 1110 Introduction to Sociology and any Statistics course (SOC 2910 Social Statistics is preferred.)

SOC 3940 Qualitative 研究 Methods (4小时)

在本课程中, students are introduced to qualitative research methods commonly used in social science research. Emphasis is on individualized project design, project construction, 数据分析, and formal presentation of results. Course content includes exploration of observation, participant observation, 民族志, in-depth interviewing, 焦点小组, 内容分析, 案例研究, and online qualitative innovations in research.
